Parents!

Have you ever wished you could see your swimmer from a closer location than the bleachers? You can! Attend an Officials Certification Clinic. You will learn what you need to know to start working on deck, side-by-side with an experienced official as an apprentice, and ultimately on your own.

Working as an official provides you with many benefits:

• You have the best view of the action
• Hospitality is provided for officials, and Sharks hospitality is well known throughout the state
• You will have a better understanding of your child’s sport
• If you track mileage to away meets, it is deductible on your taxes
• You will be supporting, in a direct and visible way, a sport that promotes a healthy lifestyle to our children
• You will fulfill volunteer requirements for your family very quickly

No experience is necessary!

The steps to become an official are as follows:

• Attend a training clinic (see below)
• Get on-deck training—your apprentice period
• Register as a nonathlete member of USA Swimming
• Take the USA Swimming officials test (online, open book)
• You must be at least 18 years old, have a positive attitude, and have both a willingness to volunteer and dedication.

Clinics will be conducted at the Selby Pool, during the Memorial Meet on Saturday May 19 in the skybox at 9 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. The clinics will last approximately 45 minutes.

Each family will have to create an account that is attached to your athlete(s). We understand that there will be a learning curve for everyone. This is why we want to start the process as soon as possible. It will be imperative that you have a current email address and can log into your account through active.com/Hy-tek. This collection process will be used for meet entries only at this point. How this will work:

1. You will receive an email from us/active.com, inviting you to a specific swim meet.
2. You will need to create an account through active.com/Hy-tek.
3. Your account will have to have a current credit/debit card on file or you will have to pay a yearly amount to active.com so the Sharks receive your money.
4. You will need to reply with the session(s) you are attending of that particular meet.
5. The coaches will review and enter the athletes.
6. You will get a second email about your athlete(s)’ entries and other specifics.
7. You will be billed when the entries are finalized and sent in.

As mentioned before this process is beneficial in ways. First, this will free up a lot of time spent on the accounting side of running the team. This in turn will help us, as a staff, be able to give our customers a better product. Secondly, we will be able to eliminate many of the entries errors that cost families and the team extra money. Last, the YMCA/Sharks will be able to receive outstanding money in a more efficient manor. We appreciate your patience with this new feature and we are looking forward to its arrival.

Individually we had a number of National Championship swims and top 10 finishes.  Shark swimmers with Individual National Championships:  Danielle Valley with three – 500 Free, 1000 Free, and 1650 Free; Ashlee Linn with two – 200 IM and 200 Back; Alex Katz won the 200 Back; and Bethany Leap won the 200 Breast.

The Team also brought home two relay National Championships:  Girls 800 Freestyle Relay; Danielle Valley, Hannah James, Taylor Katz, Ashlee Linn, Cameron Davis and Ellie Berdusco all contributed to the win.   Boys 800 Freestyle Relay;  Derek Pridemore, Liam McKane, Will Kazokas and Alex Katz swam both prelims and finals.

A number of Shark records were also broken and re-set by the Team including: Nancy Hu, Girls 13-14 Fly – 56.33;  Bethany Leap, both the Girls Senior and 15-16 200 Breast – 2:14.61;  Ashlee Linn, Girls Senior 200 Back – 1:55.62;  Alex Katz, both the Boys Senior and 15-16 200 Back – 1:45.17.  A new Girls 400 Medley Relay record was also set by the team of Ashlee Linn, Bethany Leap, Nancy Hu and Sophie Cattermole – 3:44.02.
