Sharks Honored with HS Swimmers of the Year AwardsCongratulations to Will Kazokas, Danielle Valley, and Sophie Cattermole. These three Shark swimmers have been honored as high school swimmers of the year in their respective districts. Will and Danielle are featured in this Bradenton Herald article, and Sophie is featured in the this Englewood Sun article. Great job Sharks!
Scholastic All-Americans 2011The following are the 2010-2011 Scholastic All-Americans. These are athletes that participate at the highest levels in the classroom and in the pool simultaneously. The Sharks tied The Bolles School and Tampa Bay Aquatics for the most Scholastic All-Americans in Florida. For more information please check out USA Swimming‘s page. Club Excellence Ranking 2011In USA Swimming’s Club Excellence Program for 2011, the Sharks have been ranked 7th overall. This is a true reflection on the program, YMCA, coaches, and most importantly the athletes. This puts us first in the state of Florida and one of the smaller teams on the list. We would not be as successful as we are without the combined efforts of every parent, athlete and coach. This is a great accomplishment, Go Sharks!
Car Wash a Success!The SYS car wash on Saturday was a success with donations that totaled $688.00, and almost all of the swimmers who qualify for Senior Champs, Sectionals and Y-Nats, participated. Our group effort on Saturday helped to make our travel expenses more affordable, and we had some fun, too!
These donations, as well as the donations we collect from our next three car washes on January 7, February 4, and March 3, will help defray travel costs for all of the swimmers competing in the above mentioned meets this winter and spring. A special thank you to Joe for having all of the supplies and hoses ready for us. We appreciate it!

Gator Meet 2011 ResultsThe Sharks travelled to Gainesville to compete in the GSC Holiday Classic over the December 2-4 weekend. Traditionally one of the faster meets on the fall schedule the Sharks had a clean sweep of the Team Awards finishing 1 for Combined, Girls and Boys Team Scores.
A number of Sharks won events including Alexander Gusev who won all nine individual events he entered in the Boys 10 & under including: 200FR, 50FY, 100IM, 200IM, 50FR, 50BK, 100BK, 100FR, and 100FY – Congrats Alexander!! Other individual event winners: Grace DiMeo 15-16 Girls 100FY and 200FY; Nancy Hu 13-14 Girls 100FY, 100FR and 200FY; Hannah James Girls 15-16 Girls 200FR and 500FR; Austin Katz Boys 11-12 200FR, 500FR and 100BK; Bethany Leap Girls 15-16 400IM; Campbell Lee Boys 13-14 400IM; Liam McKane Boys 15-16 200IM; and Matt O’Donnell Boys Senior 1650FR. Last but maybe most impressive, three Shark records were broken over the weekend: Nancy Hu set the new Girls 13-14 record in the 200FY with a time of 2:02.03; Bethany Leap set the Girls 15-16 200BR record with a time of 2:20.30; and Alexander Gusev set the record in the Boys 9-10 200IM with a time of 2:23.63.Congrats to all our Athletes on a terrific meet!
